May 24th, 2008

Conrad Koch is taking traditional ventriloquism to new heights offering his audiences a unique, zany and hilarious show. His humour and skills as an entertainer have turned him into one of the most exciting ventriloquists in South Africa today. He is awake, alive, intelligent and very very funny. He qualified with a Masters degree in esoteric psychology and is an anthropologist who trained as a comedian and ventriloquist at Cape Town’s College of Magic.

He got started on 5FM’s Heavyweight Comedy Jams and he hasn’t looked back since. He has appeared in the United States, the UK, Australia, Greece and Africa. Conrad also works as a professional facilitator for corporate self-help workshops. His passion is the meeting place of comedy and culture. Being completely unique and ably assisted by his puppets he uses razor sharp stand up comedy mixed up with a generous measure of social anthropology to produce a hilarious, yet thought provoking comedy. The characters he works with speak to people at every level in a corporate environment, from the senior executives to the cleaners and filing clerks. Conrad reaches them all and what’s more makes everyone laugh. Companies such as Standard Bank, Eskom Goldfields, Sun International, FNB, and Glaxo Smith Kline are some of his regular clients and he arranges training events for businesses dealing with issues such as diversity, restructures, mergers and culture. Choose a Theme

March 31st, 2008

When you decide on an event you will always be asked for the theme, this could be just as difficult as planning the actual party.

You have choices such as African, Colonial African, Circus, Back to School, Barnyard, Carnival, Street Party, Chinese, Japanese and Thai.  Of course the themes range is wide it is all about what you imagine your perfect party to be.

Once the theme is decided on you can set to work to find the party hire company who will be best to employ for the party.

Why a Planner?

March 26th, 2008

Planning an event takes more than normal intelligence, if I consider my wedding I realise it was very boring to what could have been.  I am unsure if it was because I did not have the money or because I had no idea that someone else could arrange a faerie princess occasion for you.

I knew about the dress, the church, the car, the cake, the photographer and the reception.  My wedding in retrospect was Spartan. I am sure if I had access to the internet or if it were available in South Africa at that time I would have still been in dept…. there are so many options, so many ideas.

The next couple of weeks I am going to visit internet sites, and function planners to see what could have been…

Party Hire In South Africa

March 21st, 2008

Today you can give the most extravagant parties by merely lifting a telephone, no matter the reason for the party there are experts out there who cater to your every whim and colour and taste.

Most of the party hire companies are mainly used for weddings as most South Africans still do it themselves or knows someone who will do it for them as a friend.

Baptismal, bar mitzvahs, 21st birthdays, are seen as family events and are therefore the planning is almost exclusively left up to the family members. In the busy lives we lead today it takes the entire family from Ouma to the youngest to jump in and plan a party or event that would compare to all the other family events. This of course depends on the family I question.

Some do not really do parties for these events, where as our cultural families have very important ceremonies, such as the initiation of the boys who come to age, or the celebration of virgins in the Ndebele tribes.  These parties take the form of days and I doubt if any hire party or events co-ordinator would be able to successfully plan such an event.

The majority of South Africans will settle for a good old braai, lots of castle and a side order of Champagne depending on the occasion.

The Juke Box

March 16th, 2008

Many TV shows and movies love taking a trip down memory lane to jukeboxes and the like.  I think they were well loved in the ’60’s in the time of free love, drugs and rock ‘n roll.

I do not recall seeing a live one ever other than in an antique store, they were playing records on it and I have to say that the sound quality was not good, although it does have a certain sentimental quality and the scratchy sounds of vinyl almost makes you miss mom and dad but only briefly.

That is why I had to research the reason for the resurrection of the Jukebox. The newer ones plays DVD’s and have the built in purity of sound with the added value of technology which has perfected reproducing sound.

If you only wanted good sound you have no need to buy a jukebox, you would just but a quality music system,  may be that why very few people do buy them for their homes. The Jukebox is more than a sound system, it is also a form of entertainment, the lights and the forgotten romance of it is why they have never died.

Renting the Jukebox makes so much more sense, they are a novelty at a function, especially when you have a theme party or a wild 21st birthday party.

Nostalgia will always take us back to days when our mothers and fathers changed the world of music with their love for the Beatles.
